THE RISE OF LEGENDS MODIFICATIONS QUESTION AND ANSWER THREAD AND FAQ

I noticed (almost everyone has) there is a Q&A thread in the other Heavengames forums so I decided to create one here so please start posting your questions about modding. I also have listed some modding and scripting tutorials or kits to get you started. Also please try and check the previous questions to see if your question has already been answered.

    Questions Asked Already...
    Q: How do I get files I can mod?
    A: You need your game to be patched first, then go into your root Rise of Legends Directory (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Legends), and run the Modpack.exe file. Go into your Data folder (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Legends\Data) and there is some XML Files to modify.

    Q: How do I install mods I've downloaded?
    A: Simply Copy and paste the XML files into your Rise of Legends Data folder (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise Of Legends\Data).

    Q: Can I make my modifications for Multiplayer?
    A: Not really at present, though there is limited capability described in this thread. Otherwise modding is singleplayer only.

    If you go to Game replays.org, the developers released a serie of mod tutorials. That would be the logicalplace to start.


    I may start modding here. Never modded in a game ebfore, usually too busy laying, then getting another game, so this is an interesting development.

    For heaven's sake it isn't just at game replays. There's news on the homepage here, download here, posts here!

    And in fact, Game Replays you have to be a member to download stuff - unlike here.

    I would like to override GameCamera.xml
    And change the following:

    regulation_zoom _out_dis="7500"
    regulation_zoom _out_dis="18000"

    However, I can't find this file in retail. It was part of Demo #1. I've copied the file into my retail data folder, and it doesn't seem to have any affect. Perhaps the schema changed. I'm dreading that it's not possible to override core files anymore.

    I'm also interested in knowing what the entries in the personal.ini file mean. Or if there are additional attributes that can be set in the <CAMERA> Element in the NAME.Profile file.

    Overall, I'm trying to figure out how to increase the zoom, as was possible in the first demo. I'm not interested in Regulation/Ladder play. I just want to zoom out some more.

    All of the CTW Heroes and Spells (as they are played in the CTW campaign) are stored in the CTWHeroes.xml file. If you've extracted the Modpack it'll be located in the "\Rise Of Legends\data\tribes\ctw\" folder.

    All of the normal game heroes are in unitrules.xml and their spells are in craftrules.xml. You can either: a) copy the ctw heroes to unitrules and their spells to craftrules (and enable them for the appropriate tribes), or b) include CTWHeroes in the maps you want them to be on and enable the heroes/spells for the appropriate tribes.

    Is it possible to give spells/abilities to various units?

    I've been working on a mod to the Cuotl which gives them Ix as a hero in skirmishes like the other three. However, he don't have no spells. I've been looking around but can't find anywhere where the spells might be configured. Probably craftrules.xml, but I'm not sure how to work it properly as yet.

    Is it also possible to alter what bonuses heroes' give by existing? For example, Xil existing gives a bonus to the Starbolt, to the Sun Jaguars, etc.

    im sory if this sounds like a stupid question but in the "custom tribe hanbook" it says that you can creat new units ... does that mean that you can make new skins??

    Not yet. Maybe after the tournament. That's how little a priority it is to BHG. Of course, the game'll prolly be dead with not much user content coming out by then so there might be no point.
