Anyone knows how to modify the PFB models extracted from the BIG file?

I have done some researches and it seems that I need to install OPENGL performer (or SGI Performer or whatever), anyone can share a Windows version of any program that can open the PFB file?

My purpose is to make a larger version of the the cuotl false idol (i.e, Cuotl Mini Turret), if there is a way to change the size of buildings without changing the model please let me know too

Hi modder00,

I have also wondered about this - how to edit PFB (prefabrications, prefabs) files and if we can make some things bigger, for example make a neutral city site 2x or 4x times as big to make a more interesting fantasy art setting, though the graphics may get blurry if you make things too big.

Another modder told me about the PFB files:
"PFB = Prefab, binary format. All models and animations were exported using Collada in ascii, then converted from Collada to pfb. That code might still exist in the editor, but may be hidden."

You can contact Ryder here, he might have an idea about any hidden code.

You can also find some info here:
ROL - List of All Files and Their Types, Locations and Uses - explains file types and uses
All Modding, Scenario, Map and Script Editing Guides & Tools Pack - contains some guides on modding

Will you be posting details about your project at HG?

More info on the PFB files using Collada:

Collada wiki
OpenCollada at Github
Collada import/export supported file formats (includes PFB)
3DS Max advanced options for Collada

3D Model Viewer programs - besides 3DSMax, Blender, etc you may be able to view, rotate, and/or edit the files in these programs:
3D Browser
3D Viewer
Open 3D Model Viewer
Remo3D - use Remo 3D 32bit with Open GL Performer for PFB files
SketchUp Viewer

If anyone tests this out please post here with results and any additional programs and tips. I'll be looking into this but can't do any 3DS Max testing at the moment.

You can view most of the PFB files in the Scenario Editor, but for about a dozen or so files, sometimes clicking on the PFB image or after trying to place the PFB on the map causes the Editor to freeze or crash.

The list of PFBs that crash for me are the following:

dark forest spire 02

timonium prefabs:
desert dark glass bridge
e3 bridge destroyed
pirata demo
pirata lite
pirata city
bavarian steamfortress
dark forest temple
desert ruins 1-9
volcanic dark glass 1-3
volcanic mine 1

...etc? If other players test these out to verify if these (or others) are or aren't crashing your editor then maybe we can find a pattern and possible fix

It turns out that the programs ^above^ probably do not open and edit Rise of Legends PFB files as there are different files, even though they have the same PFB / Performer extension which makes them look like they could be edited.

If anyone else can test these files and provide more info to confirm if there are any programs we can use to edit ROL PFB files, please post below

@ cghopk

The ^above^ info is all I could get when I contacted a former BHG employee, it seems they used a custom program and/or custom PFB file extension for their PFB models.

For now the next best thing is to ask programmers online if they can take a look thru the game code for any hidden things (such as the collada PFB data) and help work on the ROL User Patch project which would expand modding capability for the game and fix various problems.

Otherwise a future Steam/Microsoft re-release may fix it but it's unknown if there will ever be one at this point.
